Remember, early reports frequently say that a particular prominent landmark or building is "gone" or "destroyed." That may or may not be true in this case, but be skeptical of early reports until official sources weigh in.

We've seen reports like this almost every year when a town is hit. The school or city hall is almost always said to be gone or heavily damaged even though it's often inaccurate or a hysterical report. Just keep that in mind. The Jacksonville tornado looks pretty serious. Official reports confirm the apartment buildings I mentioned earlier have damage. Extent has not yet been relayed.

Two strong tornadoes minutes apart in Jacksonville. The only analog I can remember for this would be Tanner, AL in ‘74.

850p- JACKSONVILLE AL. *ANOTHER* TORNADO IS INBOUND FROM THE WEST. PLEASE REMAIN SHELTERED! FIRST RESPONDERS FROM THE PREVIOUS TORNADO BEWARE! #alwx

New tornado warning for Alexandria, Saks, Weaver, northern Anniston.

I know how fluid these reports can be. During 4/27/2011, there were reports that dorms on UA's campus were demolished and DCH took a direct hit. Not true at all, but it had my family in a panic.

Same! Stories circulate fast. I remember people in my dorms saying Best Buy had been damaged and they were going to loot it, and there were also a ton of people saying we'd been hit by two tornados, not one. It took hours to get verifiable reports out.

With this one happening at night, it'll be tomorrow before we know the extent of Jacksonville's damage...

Edit, it is the dollar general that is severely damaged, not the Coliseum per ABC 33/40 news room. Things will be sorted out tomorrow morning.
As a store manager for DG I can say a stiff breeze will just about knock one of those things over. Not that this wasn't likely a strong/violent tornado but DGs are built awfully.
