The "new" GFS is terrible with pressure on tropical systems. Add 20-25mb for whatever it shows. I expect a Cat 3 at landfall. It's very difficult for former Cat 5 systems to reach their max again.

The track keeps shifting west. Much further west, and Atlanta might not feel the impacts as much. But, I found this interesting. Isn't this showing nearly 100 MPH winds in the Atlanta area?

Tropical Storm Warning now for all of East Alabama and Northern Georgia from a line from Cullman, Gadsden, Rome, and Gainesville South.

Hurricane hunters back into Irma. Still holding at 125-130mph winds with 931mb pressure. Noted an open south eye wall. I expect Irma has peaked and will steadily weaken to a Cat 3 landfall.

On radarscope I thought the velocities looked lackluster, but I realized the app was updated to display wind speeds up to 280mph. Where before the pink/blue would be -130, -140mph it's now -280mph.

Under the old Saffir Simpson scale, Irma would have made landfall as a high end category 3.
