Looks like a direct hit for the city of New Orleans as a strong category 1 or weak category 2.

What did Louisiana do to mother nature?

Looks like a pretty hefty event possible for the southern parts of central AL. I just wanna get some rain off it really.

Telling my parents to hunker down starting this afternoon. Probably the worst wind event the city of New Orleans has seen since Hurricane Katrina....especially if that northern eyewall is enhanced as it pushes NE.

I’m worried about the big oak trees around my parents house. The new hurricane roof and siding will get a test for sure. I certainly have a pit in my stomach knowing I can’t be down there with them.

Zeta has rapidly intensified (getting really tired of those words) to a Cat 2 with 100 mph winds and a central pressure of 975 mb.

I’m in Mandeville, LA and it’s quiet but breezy with a li. 30mph gust at the weather station at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club. I’m about 1 mile from the lake embedded in trees. I’ll send another update in about 2 hours.

2 pm air reconnaissance: Central pressure: 973 MB. Winds: 165 km (105 mph). Nawlins area gonna get hit pretty hard. Further intensification possible (likely not much due to impending landfall) but could reach 110.

The cooler water temps closer to land have not resulted in the predicted loss of energy in this system.

A real danger of falling trees & tree limbs tonight through central Alabama. I hope people with large trees over their houses, and especially mobile homes, take precautions. Power outages are a sure thing as well.

Here are estimated 'Maximum Wind Gusts' tonight.

This about an hour ago and south of landfall point. Still . . . :(

I really didn't think, yesterday and earlier, that Zeta would amount to much -- too late in the year, too little time left after the Yucatan encounter. Sigh.

(Edit: Messed up the link at first. Sorry.)

Looks like the eye will move directly over New Orleans over the next hour or so.

Also will make a direct hit on KLIX. Hopefully it fairs better than KLCH did during Laura.

Tornado threat is much better than a slight risk.

Looks like Zeta scooted just below us as forecasted here in Mandeville, LA. We’ve gotten between 3.5“ and 4” of rain. The Yacht Club had a 45mph gust and sustained at 33mph. It’s way more rain than I anticipated. I wanted to open a beer, but maybe I’ll give it a few more minutes.
