I came across this program CAVE/AWIPS II which was formerly the NWS's main console. It has a Windows as well as a Linux version. I could not get the Windows version to work well for me but the Cent OS (Linux) version is pretty awesome. I am a windows person so don't know a whole lot about Linux but was able to get Cent OS installed via a dual boot with windows 10 and install this program pretty easily with google's help.
