Tornadoes in California & the PANW

75 years ago today, an outbreak of powerful tornadoes and tornadic waterspouts struck parts of the SF Bay Area. At least two of these tornadoes were rated F2 and caused millions of dollars in damage. 32 people were injured in the outbreak, with 30 of them caused by a high-end F2 that ripped through Sunnyvale. Another waterspout-turned F2 tornado began over the sea and made landfall at Dillon Beach, then carved a 100-yard-wide path of destruction for 17 miles, impacting the community of Two Rock. It is debated whether this one was a single tornado or if the first one dissipated and the storm recycled. The Bay Area tornado outbreak remains the most injurious tornado event in California before the 1983 Los Angeles tornado.

2% risk for tornadoes today in the Central Valley! So far, there have been a couple of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Special Weather Statements mentioning funnel clouds and tornadoes, but nothing big yet!
