On top of that, there’s the obnoxious “mini tornado” phenomenon that seems to make its way into every news story about any tornado in the UK or Australia, regardless of damage intensity. I’m not seeing it quiiite as often recently, but it’s still pretty pervasive.In areas around the world where severe weather is much more uncommon, it's most likely they simply don't know what they're looking at. I've seen multiple cases of tornadoes being misclassified as gustnadoes, vice versa, or even going (in official sources) undocumented completely.
