I disagree about banning tweets. As you stated, too much good info comes from them in a nice, tidy package. No different than posting maps, soundings, etc. Where I do agree is we've let this thread lumber on for 11 days and that is too long. Jay has already addressed that, and in the future we probably should start locking threads for a couple of days if they keep getting piled on like this one.
Tweets of SPC Mcds, watches and etc are a fast way to relay ongoing live weather developments. Better to do that where it shows than to screenshot a pic and do it that way as an upload. Not to mention that’s a fast way for chasers to upload content for live storms. Weather happens fast and you need a fast way to relay info. Also good for climo stats and damage etc. Then people should sign up for Twitter and view Tweets there. The difference is some users are actually posting maps and soundings here themselves, while others are posting other people's tweets about them. I come here to talk about weather with other Talk Weather users. Why does anyone want to come here for a Twitter feed with users you can't even interact with? AND you have to leave the site to even view half the tweets fully.
With the way this site's notifications function you have to be notified and literally view every tweet in order to keep up with the latest forum activity. It's worse than Twitter. If you ignore a user, you're missing out on information because they're posting other people's posts of all the damage and tornado pictures before users here can, or in my case, you miss the entire existence of threads. Twitter requires zero effort or time to post. What is the incentive to even post here if there's a tweet for everything you'd want to say anyways?
Seriously, how do you not see it as a problem that in a 10 day severe weather thread, over 1/3rd of the activity was Twitter, a site that actively competes with here for users and engagement? It's absurd, and significantly degrades the quality of discussion here. All the discussion and analysis by actual users here is being undermined by Twitter posts. You have actual meteorologists posting high effort content here and they're being immediately buried by random users from another platform. Don't you think there's a reason almost all of the high-effort posters here have left? I say this with complete respect and appreciation for how busy you probably are, but if you were more active here, you'd see this is a major issue that is driving your main userbase absolutely crazy.
yes KD, you've posted 200 tweets of SPC Mcds, watches, and warnings in this thread. That's all. Idk man, you just overdo it and I'm a millennial that doesn't have enough patience for it. Decent quality, reasonably paced discussion is half the reason I prefer this site over Reddit, Twitter, Discord, etc. Talk Weather isn't built to be a Twitter feed.Tweets of SPC Mcds, watches and etc are a fast way to relay ongoing live weather developments. Bingo. You can have all the fuel you want, but wit no good forcing mechanism or something holding it back, convection will not develop. That's what happening at the 700mb level. Too warm for convection to root currently in that parameter space. Not sure SPC should've upgraded.
I'm not the technical guy, so I don't know, but I've never seen it as an option.yes KD, you've posted 200 tweets of SPC Mcds, watches, and warnings in this thread. That's all. @Mike S how difficult would it be to create a "Mute" option, where we can still see other users posts, but not be notified of their activity?
“have a question for you re: Twitter posts. If I see the SPC has posted a new Day 1 and I want to share it, what would I rather do - share a tweet from the SPC or go to the SPC site, download the image (because those are live links, so someone playing catch up might not be seeing what is being discussed afterwards), then upload it here to create a post? Why go through all of that extra work.”I'm not the technical guy, so I don't know, but I've never seen it as an option.
Do you subscribe to threads? Constant notifications is precisely why I don't subscribe to threads anywhere. When I have a few minutes, I see what's new and go from there.

IMO - clutter is clutter. It doesn't have to always be from Twitter. I'd rather have a few Twitter posts than someone who posts 17 graphics in a single post, especially when viewing via mobile. The quality of posts is something message boards has been dealing with since at least 2003, the year I found Talkweather and started paying attention to forums in general. It will always be an issue. There's always a cycle of someone who has recently discovered they have a passion for weather, and they find this, or a similar, forum and are a bit overzealous with the posting. I don't love the clutter, though I rarely want to police it. The reason I post very little in these threads is because I know I have little to offer. With all of that said, you do make some good points.
Finally, if a thread goes on and on and on, like this one, report it. It is easy to lock a thread and any admin or moderator can do it, but sometimes we need someone to nudge us in the side a little bit because we're all busy people and don't always catch everything. I'm here most days and when I see a report, I address it first before doing anything else.

Then why not just get on Twitter then?! If you'd rather see tweets than detailed posts by users here then just use that platform instead. This is supposed to be a forum for discussion.I'd rather have a few Twitter posts than someone who posts 17 graphics in a single post, especially when viewing via mobile.
