Severe Weather Threat June 15-23

This might need a new thread but friday and saturday are both looking a little concerning. GFS spat this out in Minnesota for friday night (cherrypicked), and rrfs had some pds soundings. Looks like a very seasonally strong jet coming through the north plains with a pretty juicy airmass as well.

I also find it really interesting how far back most of the analogs are. I see tons of 70s, 90s, and early 2000s, but almost nothing past 2004. That tells me we haven't seen a set up like this in 20 years, and the models might have some recency bias affecting their projected mesoscale convection.
To be fair, though, I don't think the SARS Analog archive goes more recently than the mid-late 2000s (IIRC). I would certainly love to see more recent additions to it so that we can perhaps get a better idea of storm environment analogs and go from there.

are the dows out im guessing that is what cow2 would be

"COW" is the acronym for "C-band Doppler On Wheels", and are basically (as the name implies) DOW trucks equipped with C-band (~5 cm wavelength) radar antennas.

Here's a paper that goes into more detail on these and other recent enhancements to the DOW fleet:
