Severe WX Severe Weather Threat 3/14-3/16

Some pretty significant damage around Banks (just east of Troy). There are a few structures that are completely destroyed. From what I’m able to gather, they were mobile homes or prefab construction. There was an eighteen wheeler in Walmart’s parking lot (around where the tornado first began) that was overturned. It was almost blown into the ravine next to the lot, but the guardrail caught between the trailer and cab and kept it from going completely over. Fire department had to extract the driver.

There were only minor injuries (thankfully). A friend of mine suffered some minor siding/roofing damage and tree damage, but nothing major.

Yeah I was talking to a bro from Canada showing him tornado pics etc from this weekend his mind was utterly blown. Im like eh, it’s America lol. Like for me i am a bit with the violence etc but for him as in yeah I get this outbreak was bad but it happens lol ..

Shortly after the super outbreak I read this article. He states halfway through that the environment from 4/27 was so optimal for violent tornadoes that we may NEVER see those exact conditions again.

This is a really good article and one I’ve read before. I do disagree with him though on the rarity of the “optimal environment”. Our in depth data, specifically on indices the day of an outbreak, does not go back that far.

You could easily make an argument that the 1932 Super Outbreak, definitely the 1965 Palm Sunday and the 1974 Super Outbreaks, were just as if not more optimal. Then throw in some of the early 1900s outbreaks or the 1884 enigma outbreak. As “rare” as 4/27/11 was, someone born in 1930 could have seen those optimal conditions come to fruition 3 times.
