Severe WX Severe Weather Threat 3/14-3/16

Last three severe seasons were a nice break but back to reality unfortunately
That's something else that has me worried.

2024 was an active year overall, but not necessarily in Dixie.

Dixie has been pretty quiet for at least a year, and some people might have tuned out how serious the weather can get.

I teach HS earth/space science and it’s prom season. 2 schools in my district has prom scheduled for Saturday night. Had to be the bearer of bad news today and they were mad. I’m sure prom will be rescheduled but I’m worried that they will still meet and party Saturday night regardless of what the district decides.. Life of a HS teacher.
Rock and a hard place. Just know your work is greatly appreciated!

I’m not sure why proms are being held earlier in the spring now. I remember my senior prom wasn’t until late April. Same with many of the proms 20 plus years ago.

Spot on. That's what I've mentioned to a few people as well. It was too quiet in 2024 down this way.

I will say, when James Spann talks, you listen. And I would say the same thing about Fred and @Richardjacks. I was here for the lead up to 12/10/2021, albeit under a different account name because I lost my password lol. If you look at the thread for that event, the first few pages or so are both Fred and Richard talking about the potential of that system and how it was a dangerous look.
I appreciate the fact you mentioned my name with @fredgossage.
As someone who no longer predicts weather professionally, it's now just a hobby for me, it's not as much as about attention as it might be about others, it more about being correct and adding something to the conversation when you feel like you have a skill that is beneficial to the greater good...at least that's rhe way I see it.

I don't usually get that nervous about outbreaks. This one though is certainly giving me nervous vibes. Probably because this is honestly the biggest threat in March since Rolling Fork and all that.

I completely forgot about the Selma tornado a couple of years back but yeah point remains, it’s been a while since we’ve had a regional wide outbreak

All it takes is one to respect Mother Nature again though

exactly. Not as many fatalities because no big outbreaks in Dixie. 54 is bad but 2023 had 82 or so and less tornadoes.

According to Chief David Karnes at local 3 the only threat we need to worry about in the TN Valley is damaging winds up to 60. He said the tornado threat is super low for the TN Valley. Skip to 2 minutes:

I think he's downplaying the tornado threat a bit too much at this stage.

Obviously no need to scare anyone on Tuesday night but I also don't think downplaying it for his area is the best idea.

Is his coverage area in the bullseye? No. But it's also not in the safe zone.

Granted, he also has 3 or 4 more nightly broadcasts to do before the event. We'll see if his tone changes if models continue to show what they are showing.
