Mergers do not always have to be at the low levels.
The 3/10 storm that went through Illinois and Indiana has been confirmed to set the new record for the largest hailstone on record in Illinois, with a diameter of 138.05 millimeters (6.62 inches):
This video introduced a incredibly strange concept. A storm can be elevated and surface based at the same time, likely meaning it was ingesting both elevated and surface based parcels arrived the SAME time.
I also noted a merger in high elevation radar scans in its inflow likely casing more a cooled environment in the vicinity and allowing a major ramp up of the hook. I contacted Grace Cohen regarding this and Grace was confident it was a DRC-merger process.
Watching this storm on a chasers feed live was a wild ride. I swear it was dead when he was ready to mark it off and he was so conflicted back and forth, thankfully he stuck with it at last second.
