I’ve been pretty adamant about defending the NWS here, but that is completely atrocious. They should be ashamed of themselves. People may have died tonight.

Also, was today even a 5% day, or is 2024 just continuing to overperform massively on every supposed nothing day?
Looks like it was just outside the 2% risk, which was the max risk.

Been seeing everyone dump on NWS North Platte, and now it's my turn because I'm still just appalled.

It's not 1934. They can't say they didn't have the technology to track tornadoes, not to mention what the radar returns showed was obvious. They had spotters in the area, so they can't say they didn't have enough ground truth. Just complete and utter incompetence on their end. I hope NWS North Platte does a SERIOUS and in-depth review of their warning procedures before something like this repeats itself.

This is the worst example I’ve ever seen by far, in my brief time paying attention to the weather. What a complete show of incompetence. There is zero excuse for this. It doesn’t matter if today was a complete mesoscale accident in every sense of the saying.
Anything on the extent of damage or casualties? I'm looking around and can't find anything.
