Hearing of the two fatalities from Scott County, MO was also unfortunate. I was surprised given only a few damage photos I'd seen (which granted, did look significant). I thought it hadn't hit much, but that's not the case.

Eastern KY is one of the lowest-income sectors in the country. You're gonna have a lot of older homes out there in those neighborhoods that were hit.

Exactly. Somerset most likely has better constructed homes, but I don’t think the tornado was at peak strength there. In these parts, barring a Piedmont/El Reno Oil Rig type event, you most likely aren’t going to get above a mid level EF4.

I’ll be very interested to see what damage they find out there. It’s pretty rural with a lot of hills and forests, but there are some large homes in that area.

I actually tracked where the tornado was on radar and looked at maps, certainly looks like it’ll may have hit some large homes based on the path it took.

Yup. 24 fatalities confirmed with the Somerset/London tornado. Makes it the deadliest tornado since the 2021 Mayfield tornado.

To @Clancy ‘s point, a lot of these homes are older. Basically, large amounts of people just don’t move to eastern KY, so you really just get the churn of the people that do move here end up buying older homes. It’s pretty rare that you see new subdivisions being built here, but plenty of already built, older homes up for sale.

Imma be honest, I looked at wikipedia and saw the confirmed 24 fatalities and that was pretty foolish of me to believe that so quickly. I’m taking a back pedal to try and see if I can get a confirmed report.
