As part TalkWeather's partnership as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador we wanted to pass along this information. If you feel it is handy please share with your friends and family, especially those that might not be aware of how dangerous riptides are.
With Tropical Storm Cindy approaching the gulf coast, I am amazed at how many people are ignoring the warnings about being in the surf. From people with small children to "surfers", all of them are putting their lives and potentially the lives of first responders in danger.
The riptides are especially dangerous now and will continue to be dangerous after the storm passes. So take a moment to review this great video from NOAA that explains how they form and how to escape if you are caught up in a riptide.
