The Department of Defense announced today the death of a U.S. Navy sailor who was supporting U.S. Central Command Operations.

Chief Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens, 36, of Peoria, Illinois, died Jan. 28 in the Arabian Peninsula of Yemen, of wounds sustained in a raid against al-Qaida.

“Ryan was an exceptional SEAL – an experienced warrior and a highly respected teammate who served silently, nobly and bravely through several combat deployments. His family has sacrificed much for his service. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. His death reminds us all of the constant dangers of our profession, and the very real threats to our nation. For NSW, Ryan’s legacy strengthens our own resolve and commitment to this crucial fight. We hope his family can find comfort in the love and support of Family, Friends and Teammates,” said Rear Admiral Tim Szymanski, Commander Naval Special Warfare Command.

Chief Special Warfare Operator Owens was assigned to an East Coast based Special Warfare unit.

Does anyone else see the irony of the crazy, nutcases protesting over a ban on immigration of refugees from the country in which this man was killed ? He was not killed in a car wreck. He was killed by AQ terrorists! Yes, some Yemeni citizens may be attempting to flee the terror but it makes zero sense to allow one person into the U.S. if they have not been properly vetted.

I was wondering how long it would take before someone tried to co-opt this man's death for a little political grandstanding. And since you've already done it, I think it's worth making clear that he wasn't killed in the United States, nor in a terror attack. He was killed in a military operation in a foreign country. What any of this has to do with the "crazy nutcases" or the ban that they oppose, I have no idea.

But hey, don't let that stop you.

I am not grandstanding for political purposes. I was pointing out exactly what you said. He was killed during a military operation in a country by Islamic radicals that want to come to the United States and kill Americans. The crazy nut cases to which I refer think we should allow anyone from Yemen or six other terror filled states to be able to come here as refugees. Stupid and idiotic. Get a clue!
