Pyroclastic density currents are one of the most terrifying phenomena that volcanic eruptions can produce they are basically hot hurricanes full of boulders, ash, and other flying debris. They can produce damage like that of the most violent tornadoes: pyroclastic density currents have completely scoured topsoil from the earth, thrown cars hundreds of yards, completely sweep away homes, debark/snap/uproot trees, and level steel structures.
