I don't think there's a question of surface based vs. elevated, I think it's more to do with storm mode.

Edit: Tornado warning extends quite a long ways out, and lasts for an hour. DGX must expect this one to keep going. Earlier Louisiana warnings were issued valid for only 25-30 minutes.

Was expecting a giant TDS to blow up when that went over Tallulah...fortunately it didn't.
It may also be a difference in philosophies between the LCH and JAN offices. It seems like some offices prefer shorter-term, smaller polygons, while other offices prefer longer-term polygons that extend farther.

I'm still somewhat new to this, but it's interesting to me that with some of these linear storms, you would never know there's a TOR just from looking at the reflectivity.

That's a magnetic area for tornadoes and you can run in any direction from there.Storm chasers
My son goes to EMCC in Scooba, and he sent me a video of chasers setting up on campus. He plays football there so they’re practically across the street from his dorm.

Lots of LEWPs/mesovortices with very high velocities showing up on Radarscope; these things are going to be producing nasty damaging winds even without long-track strong tornadoes.
