This winter across the South is forecasted to be warmer and drier than average, thanks to La Nina. I am curious, are you looking forward to possibly another mild winter?

Honestly, I am. My mental health has not been the best since Covid and all the unrest that occurred in 2020. Understand that I hope we don't get into a drought or see lots of bad cool season severe weather outbreaks. However, I don't know if I can handle many cold, damp, dark, and dreary days like the past two winters this season.

I realize that a warmer than average winter won't stop Covid. However, I hope the weather is mild and sunny enough this winter that I can go outside for more walks to improve my mental health.

For me personally, it depends on how the government responds to COVID as to what type of winter I want to have. I'll be working off and on north of the Charlotte area, and plan to hit up Sugar Mountain near Boone, NC at least a handful of times during the winter, so a cold winter in the SE would be my preference for that. I also plan to go to Colorado for a week in March, but that is obviously dependent on the state's COVID rules. If the ski resorts are open, I'm going. Though cold and snowy out there doesn't mean cold in the SE.

If things get tightened down too much, I'd just prefer it be mild/warm where I can spend the time outdoors with my family and occasionally at the golf course.

Fun times watching the models leading up to Christmas. Euro and GFS have a big shot of cold air by Christmas. 12z GFS has teens to start Christmas morning and only warming into the low 20s. This may be overdone, but possibly very cold still.

Euro and Canadian also shows some snow right around that same time frame. Flashback to 2010 anyone? Not yet for sure, but still fun to watch.

For a La Niña winter, it’s been pretty chilly across the South in December. However, rainfall has been below normal. While I hope we don’t see drought this spring, I don’t think my mental health can handle very many rainy days. Fortunately, I got to go outside some in November and even a little bit this month.

Virginia, central Virginia, only highlights of this winter so far is us getting about 3 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice. it's been very nice on the days with the sun out, hardly any clouds, no humidity obviously, and a bit chilly but it's winter so, we have to expect that.
