...EXTREME COLD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills ranging from 10 below zero in
the north Georgia mountains to the single digits above zero in
central Georgia.

* WHERE...All of north and central Georgia.

* WHEN...From Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go
outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

I don't know about y'all, but the cold snaps we've had from these storms have me looking forward to spring. We had a pipe burst on Tuesday, and I'm hoping that we don't have a repeat this weekend. At least this system is all snow!
If it were up to me, it would be winter year round. If I had enough money, I would spend the "summer" in the southern hemisphere and then winter in the Northern hemisphere. I just absolutely hate spring and summer with a passion...at least here in Alabama. However, I know what you mean about pipe-bursting cold. It is no fun having to deal with that.

I'm sorry to hear! Water is a terrible thing to deal with when it comes to home issues.

I do have to agree on that, I'm just not built for the heat!

A few years back we had two separate pipes burst in a bathroom that shares an adjoining wall with a bathroom. When it's gotten this cold for prolonged time we just keep it dripping stronger than anticipated. I'd rather pay a significant water bill vs a homeowners claim and dealing with all of that.

Hopefully this week is smoother for you.

Comparing the models, all have relatively high confidence and consistency in supporting measurable snow accumulation from eastern Georgia into the Carolinas. Will likely see certain areas get swiped by "squalls," leading to locally higher amounts. Not too sure about Alabama, but a dusting is certainly possible.
