January 23-25th Winter Wx

I saw that. I don’t believe they’ve had even an inch (yet) but it is still raining there. What he’s seen so far is not even close to what northern Michigan got last spring @ 1.5”. I can tell you that 1.5” of ice will look like a 50 mile wide EF2 tornado went through and I’m not exaggerating. Giant mature trees will be snapped in half. Power poles are completely toppled for 10s of miles and many will be snapped in half. A steel radio-TV broadcast tower of some kind was completely pulled down. They didn’t have power in places for over 10 days and I’m talking about a decent population like 100,000 people.

I went to Mackinac Island last May. I could still see many trees down on the interior of the island despite the Michigan National Guard quickly cleaning up debris. The tree damage was also evident along I-75.

Had a loud rumble of thunder about an hour ago even this far north... lots of fairly heavy rain now and noting thunderstorms increasing in the warm sector. Interesting system.

My yard is under water and it is still pouring rain here. Once that cold front comes through later today, we will join the ice club. As long as the power holds, I don't care about being stuck so much, but hypothermia doesn't sound fun. (No, we don't have secondary heating or a generator. Can't afford it. Main reason I hate winter wx.)

Stay safe and warm out there, please!
