Hurricane & Tornado Anniversaries

I'm convinced that if you were to design a tornado specifically to attack and kill storm chasers, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than El Reno 2013. Perhaps the most you could do is change the setting (hilly and forested terrain instead of open plains to reduce visibility further) and the time of day (have it occur at night to even further reduce visibility), but outside of that, I doubt that much could be changed regarding the tornado itself (unless someone else has some ideas about that, in which case please share with the rest of us!).

90 years ago, an F3 drillbit tornado struck a farmstead in Reubens, ID, killing two people as it destroyed their house and barn, before passing over a small pond and sucking all the water out of it. The farmer, W.D. Lough, was found dead on the scene, while his wife later passed from her injuries. It's the second-deadliest tornado ever recorded in the Pacific Northwest as of 2026.

6/8 is a big one for violent tornadoes; and not just in northern areas, surprisingly for relatively late in the season.

As well as the Pampa/Kellerville outbreak, in 1966 it was the Topeka F5, and the Barneveld WI F5 struck shortly after midnight on the 8th in 1984.
