Today marks the 15th anniversary of the beginning of the "Forgotten Outbreak Sequence" of April 14-16, 2011. It tracked from the Great Plains, through Dixie Alley, and into the Carolinas, becoming one of the largest tornado outbreaks on record at the time. However, less than a couple weeks later, it would soon be overshadowed by the even larger, more destructive, and far deadlier Super Outbreak of April 25-28, 2011.

What was interesting about the Forgotten Outbreak is that there were no EF4s. Only EF3s and lower.

Officially. Askewville, NC has an EF5 case based off contextual damage, and a good EF4 case off structural as well IIRC.

OTD 15 years ago, the great outbreak of Mid-April 2011 continued. 4/15 was a bit of a lower end day IIRC, but it paved the way for the chaos that ensued 24 hours later over the Carolinas.

I remember the Storm Stories episode about the Hoisington tornado. It was the "new Udall" before Greensburg happened. That nocturnal low-level jet means business in Kansas.

On many other years, this tornado would've been better remembered than it actually is. However, it had the misfortune of occurring during the most active tornado month on record in the US, and would especially be overshadowed by the chaos of the 2011 Super Outbreak that would occur only a few days later.
