Hurricane Hurricane Milton

Raw Dvorak T number on the last analysis was 7.8. Insane.
For reference...Michael briefly attained a 7.3 for a single scan. Milton has been 7.3 or higher for 13 different scans. A raw 7.8 is simply unheard of.

So the higher the T number, the more intense it is?

Exactly. I don't know of an Atlantic storm that has hit a raw 7.8 before. Storms I'm aware of that have hit that high are Haiyan and Patricia in the Pacific. Patricia got as high as an 8.3. Haiyan went above an 8 and due to that happening the ADT was reformulated to take into account storms getting that high. Not sure we have an accurate raw number for Haiyan.

Patricia got as high as an 8.2 "adjusted" T number. Currently, Milton is at a 7.3 adjusted due to a 1.3T per 6 hour constraint imposed by the Advanced Dvorak Technique. Same thing happened to Patricia and other rapidly intensifying storms.

I'm just not aware of an Atlantic storm that has gotten this high before. Wilma/Rita pre-dated the modern ADT formulation.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...180 MPH...285 KM/H
PRESENT MOVEMENT...E OR 90 DEGREES AT 10 MPH...17 KM/H

Looks like we're sticking with 897mb as the official number

Milton has the lowest Gulf hurricane pressure since Rita and if it achieves max winds between 185 to 190mph in the Gulf, it would be the first hurricane at that intensity in the Gulf since Camille got downgraded to 175mph. Gonna be close to see if it surpasses Rita's pressure of 895mbar.
