Hurricane Hurricane Milton

St. Pete has a water main break, all water will be shut off to the city starting 12 AM. Nearly 2 million without power in the state.

The "human impact" side of me is going "oh, no!" and the hurricane dynamics nerd in me is going "oh, cool, what is happening?"

We're going to study this one for a long time.

Government generated.

(jk, but after seeing literally hundreds of idiots on Facebook unironically throw that out there, might as well...)

Brown ocean effect and some dynamics at play as it transitions?
Not sure, but it just got suddenly wetter, more convective, and winds jumped. If that sting jet theory is correct (hat tip to Cappucci - he's the one that called it that earlier on X) then it looks to me that it has spun up Milton like a top, stacking it back up and sucking moisture from the Atlantic.

Closer footage from the site of the St. Pete crane.

Not often you see a huge blob of -80 cloud tops over land in the US from a tropical system.

I mean - Sorry Mickey? Baroclinic forcing gets really unpredictable when mixed with powerful tropical cyclones. This is new stuff to learn for sure.

Flooding will continue to intensify along central and eastern Florida as Milton moves eastward. Concerned that the sting jet/brown water/Milton magic that's going on right now will make for 100+ MPH gusts all the way to Daytona and the Space Coast.

Apparently the sky turned purple over parts of Florida. Is that legit? If so how…
like where you herd this? sounds like something ive honestly seen in real life during a nor easter or tropical cyclone where i live (purple, orange, green) glow everywhere but its completely low stratus clouds

edit (note nothing happend during or after seeing this , only thing to note is there was heavy rain before it became this weird color)
