• Looks like our DeLorean hit 88 miles per hour a little too hard! A recent style update went sideways, sending us back to a retro look for a bit. We've parked that faulty future theme for now while we tinker under the hood.

Decided to make a thread for discussing anything related to firearms. Feel free to talk about guns you own, shooting, cleaning, collecting or just generally appreciating them.

I'll start by saying that I visited one of my local gun shops the other day and I found an old Stevens Model 124 - and for only $200 I want it really really bad...

It started life as a 15 round .45 acp loosely based on a browning high power and built like a bank vault. She is now a custom built 15 round 45 super that approaches .460 rowland levels with handloads. Best factory tigger I have ever had in this type of pistol. I'm tempted to try to fit a magazine extension for an extra couple rounds but I haven't done so yet. 6" threaded fully supported barrel, heavier recoil/magazine springs and a muzzle break complete the parts needed for the extra horsepower. Some nice wood grip panels for the eyes and siglites for the occasional night time use. It has become my night stand pistol.

I use very light for caliber solid copper bullets (135 grain) pushed to 1950 fps out of this piece. They recoil about like a 22 mag and the empties fall 6 feet away. These loads make very large wild boars grunt, sit down, wobble and fall over drt with body shots in the vitals. They blow all of the brains out with head shots - through the nose if shot from the side and out the ears if from the front.

How it started vs how it's going. Still needs a muzzle brake and a few inches lopped off the barrel. Cetme c308 with new old stock hk furniture. It has become the nightstand rifle. It has a shake awake red dot on it now that's not shown. It replaced a 6.5 grendel ar-15 pistol which replaced a 5.56 ar-15 pistol which replaced a pump shotgun. The rifles and rifle caliber pistols hold a ton more ammo, are much easier to control for follow up shots and with soft point ammunition don't penetrate nearly as bad as you would imagine. It's just myself, Mrs. Geno and the dogs now so no real worries about occupants.

I haven't seen a stevens bolt shotgun in forever. Go get it.
I bought it. Now I just have to wait 9 more days before I can pick it up because of Cali’s waiting period nonsense…

Unfortunately because of the waiting period I won’t get it in time for my next range trip on Sunday…. But since I already own three firearms myself and my family members are bringing several more of their own I think we’ll still be fine lol

I went to two gun stores yesterday - the first one where is where I bought the Steven’s 12 gauge and they had a couple SKS’s at the second one. The SKS’s weren’t “officially” for sale yet, but the guy told me they’ll be on the wall by the time I return on Sunday. If at least one of them is an original Soviet SKS I’m snatching it up immediately.

That’s how I roll when I’m shopping for guns. If I see something once and immediately fall in love with it, I buy it if the price is right.

Sorry about the laws there - what a mess. Chicom sks's were 98 clams each and soviet 110 and they came in big barrels last time I bought one. This would have been late 80's or early 90s. I also got 4 or 5 ak47s for less than 200 each about the same time.

Had a hell of a fun morning at the range today. Personally I think my Mosin-Nagant is the most fun to shoot out of all my guns, but my Winchester 61 and Marlin 60 .22 rifles never let me down either.

Not only will I be picking up the Stevens 12 gauge this week or next, but I am also paying off a K98k Mauser now... found it while browsing at a local gun store and mulled about it during lunch... the thing that really made me get it was a phone call with another gun store. I was actually looking for a Soviet SKS and the store I called had just sold one less than a month ago for a grand... immediately went back for the Mauser, which was on sale for $900.

Will probably own six or seven guns by the end of the year and my new year's resolution was to get a handgun... seriously considering a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard or Ruger LCP Max, but I shot and liked my dad's Glock 30 so that's up for consideration too... if I end up getting a handgun just for fun and CCW eligibility is not a consideration, I might go with a Ruger Wrangler.
