• Looks like our DeLorean hit 88 miles per hour a little too hard! A recent style update went sideways, sending us back to a retro look for a bit. We've parked that faulty future theme for now while we tinker under the hood.

This thread is meant for atmospheric discussion of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, for discussion on the Atlantic Hurricane Season itself see the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season thread

The atmosphere is currently in an El Nino as of right now. The 2023 Hurricane Season was above average despite an El Nino with 20 named storms forming due to unusually above average SST's in the North Atlantic. Those SST's remain above average even now;

The majority models are suggesting a switch to a La Nina by the summer or early fall, which would lead to another above average season in the Atlantic (Don't we tire of it by now...)

Wind shear is expected to lower with the emergence of a La Nina, and current models runs of Tropical Tidbits expect the Caribbean to be very favorable for development in the late season (October-November)
