Severe WX December 10 & 11, 2021 Severe Threat

There were several EF5 candidate homes in Cambridge Shores that were seemingly completely ignored.
Welcome to Vilonia I guess, it's easy to not have to explain ratings by just not adding the DIs

(hopefully they will be added eventually but certainly not guaranteed or expected)

The amount of DI's that were skipped in the Vilonia survey is simply phenomenal (in the worst way possible). Check this out:

Seems like NWS Paducah removed some EF4 damage points from DAT... including the university lab, as well as some in Dawson Springs.
Don't know what they are trying to do, but could be reassessing - nicely aka, a chance bump to EF5.

Oh, we should also move all this to the EF scale thread; perhaps a mod could the posts not directly related to 12/10 to that one?

I considered it, but most of the rating discussion has been geared towards this particular event and I think it fits. Once all surveys are finalized(I'm assuming they aren't - I haven't been able to keep up) then we can move the discussion.

Just checked the DAT and many of the EF4 damage points are still missing. What the heck could this be about?

Checked out the Saloma tornado on the DAT. At first, high-end EF3 didn't sound too bad considering a lot of the swept away homes clearly became detached from their subfloors, but then I looked at this. Yes, CMU foundation, but it was bolted down and the subfloor is totally gone. Severe debarking and a badly crushed vehicle on the property, so context clearly wasn't an issue. Everything here supports EF4, but no, they had to be oh so stringent and conservative.

Wonder if those EF4 points will even return... seems like in a violent tornado over the last decade or so there only a few EF4+ points listed even if hundreds of houses met the criteria. Guess they could be under further evaluation. One would assume, all things being neutral, those would be the most important to have on the DAT. Who knows?

This is the house that has no DI (along with presumably others in the area) west of Bowling Green along Browning Road. There is scouring, heavy tree damage, and a very notable wind rowing streak present downstream of the site.

How...

Actually on further review, it appears there was a rating given for that home, but it was EF2?

What a joke. Do you think any kind of meaningful policy changes will come of this? Wishful thinking I know, but I just find it so hard to imagine higher-ups just turning a blind eye to this mess and allowing it to happen again and again (or maybe it isn't so hard to imagine tbh).

Ok, silly question as I'm just an amateur, but what is wind rowing exactly?
Debris strewn into convergent lines downstream of the source, usually a hallmark of a high end tornado (such as this in Andover KS).
