Severe WX December 10 & 11, 2021 Severe Threat

There it is!! That’s the slabbed house near the UK Research building I saw on the aerial ARCGIS imagery. I misattributed it earlier to a different home on the other side of the facility. Glad to know I wasn’t just seeing things.

I checked it out on Google Street View, and looks like both buildings were pole barns. They appear to be part of the same property of the nearest house.

The delay in announcing casualties shows just how horrific the damage was/is (just generally; am not qualified to discuss, or sometimes even understand, technical details of ratings). And in western Kentucky:

Kentucky authorities said the sheer level of destruction was hindering their ability to tally the damage. Still, efforts turned to repairing the power grid, sheltering those whose homes were destroyed and delivering supplies.

Across the state, about 26,000 homes and businesses were without electricity, according to poweroutage.us, including nearly all of those in Mayfield. More than 10,000 homes and businesses had no water as of Monday, and another 17,000 are under boil-water advisories, Kentucky Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett told reporters.

A fund set up by the state collected $6 million in donations, according to the governor. Kentucky First Lady Britainy Beshear launched a Christmas toy drive for children affected by the storm. She is asking for unwrapped toys, books, and gift cards of $25 that will be distributed to families in need. State and local officials said it could take years for some of the hardest-hit areas to fully recover.

They also report that, at that Arkansas nursing home, workers shielded residents with their own bodies. Also, they had 20 minutes warning and acted on it, per something else I read which also reported only one death there.

Something may need to notice about was the UK facility wasn't hit very directly by the tornado. Center passed through north of It and only west portion of the building sustained very high winds carried bu the tornado. You can tell from the intact trees in front of the east side of the building. Had this tornado went into It very directly, the damage would be worser.

Where did you get these photos?

Ah damn. I should have thought to check street view. Saw masonry scattered around and the size of the foundation on the ARCGIS imagery, and figured that it had to be residential, as usually outbuildings aren’t built that way. I now see it’s from the bottom portion of the exterior walls, which are CMU.

This is on the eastern shore of Land Between the Lakes before reaching the Princeton area. More slabbed houses.

I don't wanna be the one that says it about the second circled slab (because honestly I'm tired of speculating about slabs) but I do know the other two were CMU foundation homes. This is near Cambridge Shores I believe.

edit: Second slab circled appears to be 176 Kentucky Avenue in Gilbertsville, so indeed a house (that someone just bought for $252,000 less than a year ago....) but I'm not going to make any further speculation about it.

I was in bowling green the night of the tornadoes and they say now atleast two touched down. I know going into the city there were more then one couplet and debris ball. I am hoping I can see some better maps to see where it was in relation to where I was from a satellite view of things. Having more then one tornado crossing is a little more confusing. I got in my car and headed south during all the chaos

I see at least two others. First one is immediately to the left of the leftmost circle, and the other is directly in between the two circles farther to the right.

The ARCGIS imagery would be tremendously helpful in determing whether they were swept away by the tornado or clean-up crews. I contacted NWS Paducah to ask them if maybe there is a link I can view the imagery, but unsurprisingly they haven't gotten back to me. I know they're busy though and most NWS offices don't respond to emails to begin with. Is NWS Paducah aware of the home at 176 Kentucky Avenue and the others you mentioned?

NWS Louisville had put two 165mph point on DAT, to be honest, did it only deserve 165? I'm really pessimistic about Louisville.

The best way to interact with NWS forecast offices is via Twitter.

Yeah I'm really unhappy with their surveying right now. That foundation may be CMU, but the bolting looks closely spaced/extensive. Reminds me of the construction in Cookeville, TN which was immediately rated EF4. Not sure what the hesitation here is about.

Yeah I had a feeling that would be the best way but I don't have a Twitter account and honestly I'm not about to make one. I swear I have a mile long list of complaints about that site but that's a topic for another thread.
