Severe WX December 10 & 11, 2021 Severe Threat

4 years ago to this day, the infamous December 10/11 tornado outbreak took place. Can’t believe it’s been that long already and hope and pray that every devastated town affected has recovered well so far.

May the 89 that lost their lives this tragic night rest in peace.

4 years. its been 4 whole years since that day. Unreal simply unreal, Dec 10th by far goes down as the worst event I have ever tracked since I began tracking stuff Easter 2020, even though 2025 has had some insane events, none were as mortifying to track as Dec 10th, 2021. the main quad-state sup and the pre-frontal/qlcs combo. quad-state sup legit looked like something from the super outbreak; (2011) . I genuinely hope we are don't have to deal with this again for many years to come. Never before I have seen so many towns hit one after the other..... The Western Kentucky Tornado and the 70ish other tornadoes all did horrifying things that day, hopefully we are spared for years to come. R.I.P those who lost their lives in that overnight/early morning timeframe on Dec 10th - Dec 11th 2021.

I’m not ashamed to say that night was the first night I legitimately cried while looking at the radar.

Seeing that TBSS over the center of Mayfield legit made me sick to my stomach.

yeah the cc after town was gut wrenching and the drone vid in front of the "visit historic downtown Mayfield" was just surreal

Ah yes, this tornado.

I vividly recall tracking this as it rolled across KY. Then I was excited (well...you get what I mean) at the possibility of having tracked my first EF5...I was not happy when it got EF4 instead.

It was part of the long, long failure line of me trying to track my first EF5. From the May 20, 2019 outbreak flaming out to the Bassfield tornado not hitting anything, to the big kahuna high risks busting (relatively) and this tornado missing EF5 in '21, to the number of "could've been a candidate, BUT..." tornadoes over the next few years, and through to the drought breaker happening while I was asleep this year.

Maybe next year!

This is one event I did not track (I wasn’t a member here til 2024) but I did track things on American wx and other sites.

I didn’t know it happened until I saw the news. That was such a quiet tornado fatality year until this.

yeah, I was up for entire event, I hit the hey when the quad-state sup died south of Louisville, Ky. that day and the days after were unmatched in horror
