Late yesterday evening, the White House ordered a cruise missile strike on Shayrat Air Base near Homs, Syria. Though U.S. military personnel have been engaged in action against ISIS and al-Qaeda in Syria, this was the first direct military action taken by the United States against the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad.
