The Senate confirmed former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture, 87-11.

The Commerce Department instituted a 20% tariff on certain categories of Canadian lumber, citing a pricing advantage Canadian lumber producers have due to their use of government land. The administration also levied sanctions against individuals thought to be involved in the development of Syrian chemical weapons.

The President called for increased sanctions against North Korea in a meeting with ambassadors from the UN Security Council. It was also reported that the White House will host a meeting for the entire Senate, along with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss the ongoing security challenges regarding North Korea.
