Severe WX April 1-2 (overnight) Severe Weather Event

You know what I’m going to go ahead and say what I’ve been wanting to say for a while. There is a cluster of users who are obviously transplants from tornado Twitter/Reddit, and both of those websites are better suited to them than this forum. I’m tired of every EF thread being punctuated by garbage, misinformed takes from people who refuse to learn more and post less, and cling to this forum despite not being well-received, ignoring input from more knowledgeable users, and being the common denominator between every discussion that goes off the rails. It’s diluted the quality of the conversation, and it’s not enjoyable for either party, so why are you here?

For what It's worth, while I disagree with Nick's opinion (which is good, discussion should be encouraged), I think it's very difficult to argue he's not trying his best to be as accurate with tornado documentation as possible. There are multiple occasions he's alerted the NWS to missed, damage, multiple tornadoes etc. which improve surveys.

I know the moment may have passed, and this may not be the correct thread, but I do think trying to insinuate its some intentional mis-rating is a little silly, to be honest - from his perspective it's easy to see why he got a bad impression. (Though someone simply asking a question should not be made to feel embarrassed, or shamed about that in any way.)

Regardless, the larger the variety of opinions which are argued respectfully and well evidenced, the better - EVEN if you disagree.

Just gonna summarize this as quickly and simply as possible.

Talkweather is a public forum that is welcome to anybody with a passion for discussing, critiquing, or amazing weather phenomena. Detail oriented and thorough discussions are the top priority here and it is simply upsetting to see childish IMBY mindset like posts be put on here so often.

Disagreements are bound to happen, and it is okay to not always agree. But it’s not fun for anyone when people begin to dump garbage filled posts with bias, ignorance, and above all; attitude. If you feel like what you’re about to post could spark some controversy at hand. The simple best thing to do is to not post it.

This is not saying no one is welcome here. This is your opportunity to take this advice and learn from it. It is up to you what you want to do.

I think my problem is i'm too passionate about the EF scale topic and it's probably best I abstain from here on out. I see the underestimation of tornado windspeeds as a public safety issue, which has made things feel more urgent and important than they maybe are. I also see the evidence of tornadoes being underrated as so abundant and clear that it feels like I'm taking crazy pills when I see people still advocating for the current mindset causing these problems. My passion really shows itself when that happens.

However, I can confidently say every single time i've been confrontational on this site was in response to disrespectful, accusatory comments and/or personal attacks from other users. My confrontational attitude with Nick was in response to his tweet that was dragging Slenker, who was extremely courteous to him. I think it's beyond hypocritical to say "there are a couple of users who’s presence here is like a fire extinguisher against well-informed, mature discussion" without taking any personal responsibility for that happening. I can easily go and find at least half a dozen times this user has insulted me personally because he disagreed with my viewpoints.

It also feels like I'm back in high school again with the way people pile on and side with the more "popular" users in these instances. I've felt like some of the criticism against me (and a few other users) strays into straight up bullying sometimes. This is an anonymous online forum, so i'm surprised constantly by how much the criticism affects me. I think it's because I respect the knowledge of so many people here. I feel like I have gone out of my way to be respectful and courteous to other users, even when it isn't shown to me. Yet, a comment basically saying I suck and should leave is currently sitting at 9 likes. This is beyond "taking the hint" at this point, so yes, I'll leave if that's what people want.

Okay, jokes aside...

That paragraph where buckeye talked about how you eviscerated your credibility and he 'couldn't possibly respect what you have to say any less' was definitely going a bit too far imo, but you have to remember there are still two sides to the story here.

Regardless of his singular opinion, there are multiple users here who share the opinion that your posts are "confidently and arrogantly" incorrect. I truthfully don't think coming across that way is your intention, but my only advice would be to re-evaluate the way that you post here and think "hmmm, why do multiple people see my posts that way?"

Anyhow, this will be my last post about this topic in this thread. If anyone wants to continue this conversation, DM me.

Wow, catching up on the posts from the last few days and boy did the thread take a turn there. I'm mainly a lurker and am here to learn more about a topic that became a hobby. Hate to see anyone being torn down by anyone for any reason. Godspeed and prayers to anyone needing it, especially the victims from this systems storms. The rating doesn't matter too much when your home was the one hit and gone. ✌️

@Liberty4dayz, very true. A shame that drama and arguments have to clog up a thread from a severe wx outbreak, especially for those wanting to go back and revisit the sequence of events.

And yes more importantly we must remember the lives lost and affected.

Hope you’ll stick around @Liberty4dayz. Good people here, as well as discussion.

Politics are, by definition, controversial. Tornado ratings should not be, unfortunately they are.
This will probably be pretty dumb to say and I genuinely hope this doesn’t sound weird, but it almost feels pointless having all these rules for the scale if all they do is generate controversy. I feel like the rules in place should help avoid it.
