Hurricane Ivan made landfall 20 years ago today in the early morning hours. That also coincides with me joining Talkweather because I found TW while reading about Ivan on a blog.
Ivan made landfall in Alabama, exited the United States off the DelMarVa Peninsula, looped back around and crossed south Florida back into the Gulf Of Mexico and made its final landfall as a Tropical Depression in Cameron, Louisiana before finally dissipating.
There were, shall we say, some very spirited discussions in the weather community, even amongst the professionals, if the regenerated system was indeed Ivan or a new storm.
One thing I remember from Ivan as it moved through north Alabama was standing in my front yard and watching a very large limb get blown off of a tree in my backyard due to the winds.
