2026 Political Thread

20 years ago, if you told me that Kid Rock would be headlining a conservative alternative Super Bowl halftime show in the future, I would’ve accused you of (to quote the aforementioned Kid) “fueling up on cocaine and whiskey”. The multiverse is weird, man.
Kid Rock offered to play at W's last inauguration and the GOP said "no thanks".

Oh how times have changed.

Meanwhile, in Minneapolis...

Excerpt from an interesting commentary...

...This Is Not Victory Dancing
Let me be careful here.
A man is still dead.

Families are still grieving.

Investigations are ongoing.

Nobody “won.”

But restraint…prevented something worse.
And that deserves acknowledgment.

The loudest voices online predicted fire.

Instead, what we saw was focus.

The difference between those two outcomes…is the difference between escalation and de-escalation.

History turns on those margins...

I fear they might have gotten their insurrection, if they had done Portland, Oregon, first.

Now, with that tremendously courageous and patient Minnesota example, if Noem's goon squad does come after my state next, as was rumored to be the plan, people know what to do and how to behave.

I hope.

But let's remember the terrible economic and social cost to Minnesota -- it is high and it is generational. And many people, including kids, are still disappeared. Some are dead or injured.

The politics of division grows bitter fruit. Much better, the old-style politics of compromise, deals, and at least lip service to decency and the public trust.

But what we are seeing today really isn't politics. It is an existential threat to everything the US has stood for for centuries.

Trump has betrayed MAGA, making no bones about it by very publicly welcoming that socialist Mr. Mamdani in the Oval Office on the day the Honorable Taylor Greene announced her resignation.

And a bunch of creeps who are okay with pedophilia and other crimes really are trying to turn this country to the current Russia model, while a surprising number of confused American snobs and others lacking a moral compass are enabling it; we all really do need to take an individual stand on that. Over and over again, because this isn't going to go away any time soon unless Congress develops a spine and starts impeaching all the officials who so obviously need it.

We the People, meanwhile, need a positive message, a confirmation of happy endings, an optimism in activism -- and most of all, a good place to head for out of this mess.

Just off the top of my head, I know of only one influential living American who is stepping up to this (although there undoubtedly are many others that we can find whenever we get the courage to go looking for them):

As for past Americans, especially this month...

...that sentiment in the Declaration of Independence which gave liberty, not alone to the people of this country, but, I hope, to the world, for all future time...was that which gave promise that in due time the weight would be lifted from the shoulders of all men. This is a sentiment embodied in the Declaration of Independence. Now, my friends, can this country be saved upon that basis? If it can, I will consider myself one of the happiest men in the world, if I can help to save it. If it cannot be saved upon that principle, it will be truly awful. But if this country cannot be saved without giving up that principle, I was about to say I would rather be assassinated on this spot than surrender it...

-- Abraham Lincoln, 1861

It's okay to care. America wouldn't be America without that.

From the desk of a US Congressman, an accusation that Trump + Epstein raped her, followed by her being found with her head blown off in Oklahoma and the police stated it could not have been a suicide. If this isn't the end of the line for literally everyone, we've descended into madness (and Nazism) for good.

What the actual hell? This press conference is absolutely insane.

On the bright side, SCOTUS ruled on February 20 that most of Trump's "reciprocal" (country-specific) tariffs imposed under the IEEPA are indeed illegal.

Unfortunately, de minimis isn't coming back... and naturally, the first thing Trump did in response to the ruling was to increase the baseline tariff for all imports.

One thing is most certain tonight...The Democratic Party hates America. Its quite obvious and on "display" across America and the entire world.SOTU.

Trump's State of the Union was quite pathetic as always - I tuned in for about five minutes and counted about three lies (drug prices are down 600%, cost of living is down and prices are the lowest they've ever been), one "it should have been me" (in relation to the Nobel Prize), and one count of insulting the Supreme Court.

I didn't watch the full thing, but I'm assuming Epstein wasn't mentioned once?

Kinda the way I felt about Obama and his lying tongue. He should be prosecuted for Treason against the United States.

That's the thing, though - it's always "Obama did this" or "Biden did this" - so what? Does that make it okay for Trump to do? Not at all. And I'm not praising Obama or Biden, both have their goods and bads (ahem, Kunduz hospital AC130). But every time Trump does something criticizeable it's always deflected back to "others did it too". I mean, what other president in the last 20 years has openly joked about having a third term in an official speech? Maybe I'm missing something but I can't think of any.

And as I suspected would be the case, Epstein (despite being one of the biggest stories of his entire second presidency) was not brought up once. So much for being transparent and open, although he is in the files extensively so what can I say.

Obama spent 8 years blaming Bush. Clinton spent 8 years crying about what he inherited.

That's the game.

I didn't watch the SOTU address, but I did see a clip where he cornered the Democrats into sitting on their hands instead of committing to supporting American citizens. That was funny, tbh.

Oh yeah, because covering for a pedophile is so much better, right?

Oh you must be referring to Obama, both Clintons, Biden, and half the Democratic Party and the MSM maybe? Lots of coverning up over there for sure.

You make the mistake of assuming that I care about political party at all in this instance. They should all go down. Can you say the same for Trump and Republicans defending him?

Yep this we can agree on. If he has anything on him that is 100% concrete, then yes throw him in prison as well.Doesn't matter WHO.

What is it with Afghanistan and getting into wars? Their country is literally incapable of going more than five years without any sort of conflict (1979-1989, 1989-2001, 2001-2021, 2026). I get it's not their citizen's fault, but jeez.

Just have to hope the U.S. doesn't get involved in this one.
