i've noticed on and off a high pressure-low pressure oscillation of sorts where it kinda shoves itself north and the shape of the rest tend to twirl around it like running a chopstick through oil/food coloring resting on the surface of water. It seemed -- from my untrained eyes anyway -- to coincide with the formation of low-pressure systems off the atlantic coast of Africa; particulaly when the water/weather here in the Maritimes gets colder.
I was operating under the assumption -- based on my supposition above -- that this indicated that the water in the northern part of the atlantic was much cooler than the water down south which aids in the formation of storms where they combine.
You can also just sorta watch along Africa and further east where low pressure systems seem to both 'form' (not a technical term probably) and are also 'pushed' to the west by higher pressure systems just kinda pushing down like a wave.
Another way to describe it is when you drop food colouring into warm water as opposed to cold; you can see how the warm water causes the dye to do more dramatic little twirls due to what I assume is convection as the colder lower water (and the room-temp food colouring) mixes with the warmer upper layers.
Additionally the Atlantic seems to experience a sort of... stasis? (entropy? not really the right word but--) in the weeks/months leading up to an El Nino; aka it seems to actually be affected by the El Nino (or maybe even contributes to it from a distance) before its far more noticable -- and by 'noticable' i mean 'easily observable the average person looking outside' -- affect/effect (i guess both are valid) in the Pacific.
The fact that storms are forming now combined with El Nino reaching its 'peak' in the coming weeks causes me to wonder if we're about to have a somewhat active early winter in the Atlantic; or at the very least a woefully wet/snowy one for the eastern Atlantic due to how unseasonably cool its been here in the Maritimes and how it feels like everything's been just kinda lurking more easterly than usual.
This ended up a lot longer than I meant and I apologise; I often just keep this speculation to myself and leave it to people far more knowledgable/smarter than I.
