Reddit has now banned /gundeals a subreddit that allowed users to post links to retail sales of gun accessories, optics, ammunition, and firearms. It's essentially like they banned a site like /buildapcsales but for firearms and firearm accessories. No guns were EVER sold on the subreddit nor were individuals allowed to advertise any firearm or product for sale. It was strictly links and comments about gun deals at places like Palmetto State Armory, Brownells, SG ammo, etc.
Any firearm that was purchased was purchased from an online retailer which require said firearm to be shipped to a FFL for transfer to the purchaser. That requires a full background check through NICs (unless you have a valid and active concealed carry license in some states).
Basically, they banned a subreddit that simply posted hot deals for a legal product being purchased legally because they said they don't want to encourage firearms transactions.
I didn't believe in the idea of a true culture war, but with what YouTube has done recently, Reddit, Walmart, Dick's, etc how can I not believe it? We are being told purchasing a legal item with a rich cultural heritage is EVIL and shouldn't even be allowed to be discussed because some people don't like the product.
They also banned subreddits that allow beer and cigars to be traded after they were called out for hypocrisy. Even a lot of pro-gun control liberals are speaking out saying it's a step way too far. This is about disallowing people from being able to discuss and exercise a core Constitutional right. We've seen the exact same thing with free speech. This country is in a very dangerous place.
