5 time deported illegal immigrant accused of murdering Kate Steinle is found not guilty in California.

By the way, this is the same state who implements criminal penalties for “misgendering” someone.

The GOP tax bills are a joke when it comes to helping lower and middle income families who are trying to adopt children, those families who have high medical expenses due to sickness, disabilities, or care for the elderly, teachers, and if you are concerned about a $ trillion deficit increase. Good news if you have your own private jet

Maybe the jury was right... I really don’t know. Tonight is he first time i had heard of this case.

Either way, his immigrant status had no bearing in the case. Not even allowed to be entered into evidence.

LOL you missed my point completely. If immigration laws were actually enforced, Kate Steinle would still be alive, whether you take his defense that it was accidental discharge of a firearm or the prosecution that is was purposeful. This wasn't a law abiding (outside immigration), trying to better himself illegal immigrant, this was a previous convicted felon, in which San Francisco wouldn't cooperate with federal authorities.

Even if you take his defense that he was fiddling with the stolen gun he found and it discharged accidentally hitting someone, that still is involuntary manslaughter. The jury acquitted him on those lesser charges as well...an absolute miscarriage of justice.

Soooooo this Flynn thing might be a big deal
Not sure what the full significance of this is yet:
"Michael Flynn testifies in plea that he was directed to make contact with Russia by senior Trump transition team officials"

Senior Trump official who directed Flynn to contact Russian ambassador was Jared Kushner, news sources are reporting. Again, I don't know the significance of this.

Excuse my ignorance, and I’m not being sarcastic here, I thought Mueller was investigating Russian influence on the election. All of this seems to have happened after the election during the transition period. Is that correct?

While that's the primary directive, he was given authorization to investigate and prosecute in any matters that may come up while investigating Russian election interference

And tax reform passed the Senate last night...headed to the President's desk to be signed in Trump's first major legislative victory.

It also rakes grad students, like myself, over the coals. The tuition reduction credits that we receive for providing valuable research, teaching labs, and assisting in grading are now subject to taxation. Therefore, now we will have to pay income tax on more than just the monthly stipends we receive, but we receive ZERO income from the tuition credits (only money exchange is between funding source and accounts receivables at the schools, no money is given to me). My question...does this drag over to scholarships now? After all, that is a tuition credit provided by either the university or private sources. I'm not sure how to even interpret the change in that part of the law....and it seems it can be broadly interpreted.

Universities will ultimately have to change how they handle tuition and credits for being a graduate student or this will cripple higher education.

So glad to see the House pass concealed carry reciprocity across state lines. Hopefully the Senate does the right thing and stop state infringement on a constitutionally guaranteed right.

Not so much politics but rather interesting:

ALABAMA HAS THE WORST POVERTY IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD, U.N. OFFICIAL SAYS

A United Nations official investigating poverty in the United States was shocked at the level of environmental degradation in some areas of rural Alabama, saying he had never seen anything like it in the developed world.

"I think it's very uncommon in the First World. This is not a sight that one normally sees. I'd have to say that I haven't seen this," Philip Alston, the U.N.'s Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, told Connor Sheets of AL.com earlier this week as they toured a community in Butler County where "raw sewage flows from homes through exposed PVC pipes and into open trenches and pits."

The Black Belt of Alabama is some of the worst poverty stricken areas I've ever seen. Did some research work down in Greene, Marengo, Dallas, and Wilcox counties and I literally thought I was in a whole new world. This was only a little over an hour from Tuscaloosa! And it transcended races...black and white. The parishes along the Mississippi River in Northeast Louisiana rival the Black Belt of Alabama...East Carroll and Madison Parishes. Again, I felt like I was on a different continent....
