Of the ten reported tornadoes in the ESWD database for Syria, seven of them have occurred near the city of Tartus, including two this year (on February 1 and February 5), as well as this tornado in 2012:

Tartus seems to be the Moore of the Middle East...

the very high tree fall rates and fall patterns are interesting though the patterns are probably caused by the topography

i'm not sure where this house but i assume its where it made landfall

Wow! Never heard of this event. That is some extremely impressive tree damage, especially for Scandinavia.

Just stumbled across this video which I had never seen before. The tornado was likely pretty weak, but because of how close range this person gets and the really intense motion I thought its a video worth sharing on here.

Unlike neighboring mainland China, Taiwan isn't known for tornado activity but they do get one or two per year according to some sources. Here are a few examples:

May 12, 2011 - Xindian District, New Taipei City
Widely visible anticyclonic tornado. It touched down and caused damage including a flipped car, downed fencing and uprooted trees. Because of its wide visibility and the highly populated area, this tornado was documented from many angles. It is possibly one of the most filmed tornadoes from outside of North America, probably on par with other instances including Tsukuba 2012 and South Moravia 2021.

July 19, 2014 - Pingtung County
Large, widely visible tornado that probably originated as a waterspout. It reportedly traveled six kilometers (3.7 mi) and caused some damage to greenhouses and power poles.

August 9, 2015 - Tainan City
Not much information is available on this tornado, but it was spawned in the outer bands of Typhoon Soudelor. Most of you are probably familiar with the dashcam video of this tornado, taken as it crossed over Yongcheng Road.

July 1, 2019 - Linbian and Nanzhou Township, Pingtung County
Large, strong tornado took on the appearance of a small wedge in its mature stage. Trees and power poles were downed, tin roofing was blown apart and scattered, and boxcars and large shipping containers were reportedly blown over by the tornado.

While the Middle East isn't known as a tornado hotspot (goes without saying) they do get quite a few over there, especially in Saudi Arabia. Here's some close range footage of a tornado apparently in Lebanon, although I don't know if that's accurate or not:

Not sure why was it called as gustnado
In areas around the world where severe weather is much more uncommon, it's most likely they simply don't know what they're looking at. I've seen multiple cases of tornadoes being misclassified as gustnadoes, vice versa, or even going (in official sources) undocumented completely.

When was the first time a tornado was misclassified as gustnado?
