"It was supposed to be an exclusive party at Mar-a-Lago, Donald J. Trump’s members-only club in Palm Beach, Fla. But other than the two dozen or so women flown in to provide the entertainment, the only guests were Mr. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein."

Uh oh.

I am wondering what Ghost, Evan and others on this board know that the millionaires I saw this past week at Orange Beach flying trump 2020 flags from their Rybovich, Hatteras and Viking yachts don't know. Just wondering.
I'm not surprised at all that rich people in the south are fans of DT. He gave the biggest tax cuts to the rich, so sure they're going to carry his banner. There's nothing rich people love more than more money for them.

So I don't understand what's so wrong about asking someone if they are an American citizen or not on a census. If we are trying to understand the demographics of the U.S., it seems like a perfectly legitimate question

It’s unconstitutional. The census is required to count each person in the country. It is well established that a citizenship question would greatly reduce participation rates, rendering the count inaccurate.

This story will go away or get super nasty. List of democrats and republicans that partied with this dude is like a who’s who...and he’s long been known as a dem supporter though but Trump was too though.

Why do you ask? Are you expecting a large number of foreigners to vote for Trump?

I don't remember the one Clinton implemented, but I do remember the one Bush implemented. Further, I have never recommended a tax on goods, I simply stated that Trump's tax cuts favored the wealthy.

So I don't understand what's so wrong about asking someone if they are an American citizen or not on a census. If we are trying to understand the demographics of the U.S., it seems like a perfectly legitimate question

It's not that there is something inherently wrong with asking the question. It's that the Trump admin is not asking the question because they actually want to get the true demographics of the country.

They're wanting to add the question because they believe it will reduce participation in the census by Hispanics -- especially illegal aliens of Hispanic origin -- and that will cause certain states with a high population of Hispanics to lose House seats or Electoral college votes because their true population will be undercounted if less Hispanics participate in the census process.

The Trump admin invented a contrived reason to add the citizenship question back to the census. I say "contrived" because that's what SCOTUS said the Trump admin did. They created a false reason for why they wanted to add the question because administrative/regulatory changes by the executive require there to be a somewhat plausible reason for why the change is being made or the change is unconstitutional. SCOTUS actually told the Trump admin that the census question itself is constitutional. What's not constitutional is fabricating a reason for why you're wanting to ask the question. You have to provide a reason that the courts don't see as total BS. Even a moderate amount of BS is acceptable -- just not a total whopper that no intelligent person with a brain believes is true.

The contrived reason that the Trump admin invented was that they believed they wouldn't be able to properly enforce the Voting Rights Act (an act that prevents racial discrimination in the voting/election process) without having citizenship information. If you believe Trump cares about racial discrimination in our electoral process then I have a wonderful bridge to sell you. SCOTUS didn't believe it either, and they also thought the stated reason didn't even make sense.

That's it in a nutshell although I'm giving a very simplistic overview of the whole situation because the actual standard required by the courts for regulatory/administrative law changes is way too complex to get into in this thread. But, to be clear, SCOTUS will accept a tremendous amount of BS as to the government's reasoning in a case like this. They do it all the time. But don't mock their usual tradition of deference to the government by presenting a reason that is so obviously false and so patently absurd that even my two year old would know it's not true.

Actually, I was mistaken... the overwhelming majority of luxury yachts are built in Italy, followed by the Netherlands. USA is in fifth, and it’s sales have been in a downward spiral since 2010 (and continue that trend). You can read it at https://www.boatinternational.com/y.../annual-reports/2019-global-order-book--39251 but I’m sure you’ll ignore that. So, I guess Italy should send Trump a thank you note, but not likely from the American shipyards. Anything else?
