2026 Global Tropical Cyclone Discussion

Super Typhoon Champi has the most stable pinhole eye I’ve tracked in the five years I’ve been tracking TCs. Officially it is a 130 kt super typhoon, but there have been several T 7.0 Dvorak fixes suggesting that Champi is likely a Category 5.

this is an upper-echelon and borderline perfect sat presentation, if that can maintain or improve going into 00Z, I would up it to 155-160 kts.

Look at it now, with its astonishing appearance

Ok, I’m done:

The JTWC kept 130 kts/934 mb for 00Z ATCF

Why are they clowning so d*** hard?

Sorry for the unprofessional reply, because I’m usually professional with reporting the tropics on this thread, but this is not acceptable from the JTWC, considering we had several T 7.0 fixes from Dvorak prior to 18Z, so this should be a Category 5

I agree. That is a very exquisite pinhole eye and it's obviously a category 5 now (very intense at that). This also reminds me of the Spongebob scene between Patrick and Manray. Instead of Is this your Wallet, its: Is this a category 5? JTWC: No

I don’t know what the JTWC is doing, but I’ve seen some people compare this to 2019 levels of clownery from the JTWC massively underestimating a storm, so…

Eye is 5.1 miles wide (measuring from west to east) and 3.3 miles wide (measuring from south to north) on RadarScope

Wonder if JTWC is being run by NWS Memphis today.

Because NWS Memphis is most of the time the last ones to acknowledge a severe weather/tornado risk. They are too conservative with mentioning any risk of severe storms/tornadoes even when SPC and other surrounding offices are mentioning the risk.
