While supercells may be more messy in nature today, i think it's always important to watch for more discrete nature in these cases. Remember last week's surprise outbreak in the Ohio Valley?

There is a awful lot of low level instability that can be stretched vertically today. We seen what extreme instability can do yesterday.

I’m amazed at the number of Tornado Warnings that are occurring in Severe Thunderstorm Watches this summer. There is a Tornado Warning near Lewisburg, West Virginia.

All of them rather far north, as well. This map is from July 13th, so it doesn't have yesterday's. That EF3 would be roughly on the same latitude as No. 12, on the northern tip of Lake Winnebago (the large dark spot north of tornado No. 31).

Just learned about a new phenomenon called meteotsunamis. They're tsunamis caused by rapid changes in atmospheric pressure, and one occured yesterday with the Appleton tornado. Pretty crazy!

Lake Winnebago has had them before related to severe weather phenomena. In June of 2001 a derecho (for which SPC had issued a high risk, back when 45% hatched for wind was enough to trigger it) did something similar.

I will wait and see tomorrow if it is worth the time to edit the date in the thread as there is a Slight Risk out for Wednesday along the Florida/Georgia border.

Lake Winnebago has had them before related to severe weather phenomena. In June of 2001 a derecho (for which SPC had issued a high risk, back when 45% hatched for wind was enough to trigger it) did something similar.

Probably has to do with the lake being relatively narrow east-west compared to how long it is north-south. When you get a southward or southeastward-moving storm it has a long fetch to push a lot of water into a small area, which then rushes back when the storm passes.

There is a Tornado Warning along the Tail of The Dragon in the Smoky Mountains. I hope all the motorcyclists that frequent that curvy stretch of road found shelter.

There is a supercell between Greensboro and Durham, North Carolina all by itself with a hook shape that has a Tornado Warning and a right mover. There is also a cell trying to form a tornado that will pass near historic Jamestown in Virginia.

Since we haven’t talked about the heat today, I saw earlier today that Gulf Shores on the Alabama coast had a heat index of 115 with a forecast low of 80 tonight. Hopefully people at that beach had enough sense to apply a strong SPF sunscreen to avoid a bad sunburn.
