2026 Political Thread

Looks like a deal will come by this weekend. I'm curious to see the agreements in this deal.

Seeing talk that there could be major concessions on part from Iran.
 
We haven't had a good president during my lifetime, that's for sure.

I actually liked Trump during his first term, but my opinion of him began to sour massively after his refusal to concede in the 2020 election. His second term has been disastrous, probably one of the worst in American history. It will take years (if not decades) to reverse the damage Trump has done to both domestic policy and international relations, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the US' standing with its allies.

Obama was a terrible president. Bush Jr was a terrible president. Both of them presided over lackluster economies. Bush poured the foundation and Obama built the factory of the unconstitutional US mass surveillance state. Bush favored funding for his pointless forever wars in Iraq and Afghanistan over funding for Katrina victims. Obama caused millions of Americans to lose their healthcare plans after promising they would be able to keep them, just to give a few examples.

Bush Sr and Reagan were fair presidents overall, but even their administrations were tainted by scandals. Iran-Contra and the EPA scandal under Reagan and the tax increases by Bush Sr despite his famous quote ("read my lips, no new taxes") just to name a few. Both of them do get points for defusing the Cold War by signing treaties with Gorbachev (1987 INF Treaty under Reagan and the 1990 Chemical Weapons Accord under Bush Sr) among other agreements with the USSR.

Gonna be honest when I say I don't know a whole lot about Clinton's presidency, but the few things I do know about (the Lewinsky scandal and the Federal Assault Weapons Ban) put a really bad taste in my mouth.

That was back when Newt Gingrich and the Republicans were still somewhat normal.

Bush Jr. is one of the worst presidents we've had since at least the 80s. Starting a war based off completely wrong intellegence that led to thousands of American deaths for no real reason, the Abu Gharib scandal, and an economic policy that led up to the Great Recession. I could go on and on. The only reason he is seen as favorably as he is is due to the rage induced by 9/11 and American's desire to bomb everyone possibly responsible.

Supposedly American military seized a cargo ship that has stuff from China on it that trump calls a "gift" but also "not very nice".
 
Bush Jr may have been a decent man, but he was in no way a good president. His leadership in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 was good, but that went downhill quickly when we invaded Iraq needlessly.
 
Kindve a weird but crazy story out of Montgomery Alabama. SPLC getting indicted, the Montgomery office supposedly the SPLC paid the KKK to stoke race issues from 2016-2023?

Great. The guy who screwed San Bernardino out of thousands of jobs by halting the construction of the Eastgate Air Cargo Logistics Center - the city I lived in for the first 17 years of my life, and still work in...

It feels like a personal betrayal.

Oh, but at least he's "fighting Donald Trump". I don't like Trump either, but WORRY ABOUT FIXING CALIFORNIA BEFORE YOU TAKE ON THIS ADMINISTRATION, XAVIER.
 
Imagine if Biden or Obama extended the ceasefire with no deal.
