January 30th-February 1st Winter Storm potential

12z NAM is more easterly with the northern stream trough as it winds up and becomes more neutrally tilted/closes off over the SE. This reflects on the surface with a more easterly precip shield and keeps Alabama snow-free for except the northern most areas.

I will say, there has been a general westernly trend over the past day or so, and the gradient on the back side of the low from no/minimal snow to significant snow is razor thin, I don't have incredibly high hopes that we can turn this around for AL.

As we move into the weekend we will begin to see our next precip
chances. A weak wave begins to develop along the TX gulf coast Thu
night that moves east to the FL gulf coast by Fri night. As it
moves across the gulf it begins to strengthen and develops a
closed low center by 12z Sat. This low center moves across central
FL Sat morning and up the eastern seaboard to the Mid-Atlantic
coast by Sat night. It continues to push NE along the New England
coast through Sun Night/Mon morning. With the cold airmass in
place across the southeastern states Sat/Sun, the back side
moisture from this low center will bring light rain to the area
Friday afternoon turning to snow Fri night/Sat morning then
exiting the state Sat afternoon. Right now, still not seeing much
in the way of QPF values so any snow that develops will be light
with light accumulations if any at all. The best locations for any
accumulations will be across eastern portions of the state where
they could see 0.5" or less.
FFC from their 2am discussion. They don't seem convinced on the chances of much of anything happening for GA.

With setups like these, it’s very possible to have snow showers even when the models don’t pick it up

This isn’t a snowstorm for us in Alabama but the flizzard watch is very much on
I would be happy with flurries...I haven't seen a dusting of snow since 2018 in Dallas County, AL. We missed out last year during the south Alabama snow storm.

Models are pretty locked in on 1-2" dusting for the lowcountry, as far south as Savannah perhaps. Charleston looks to be in a good spot to pick up a real accumulating snow. Fun times.
