January 30th-February 1st Winter Storm potential

I'll go ahead and start this. Model agreement is starting to lock in a potentially significant winter storm, accompanied by an unusually cold airmass on the back end of things.

I'm currently in Charleston, SC for the foreseeable future, so my weather focus is shifting more towards the rest of the forum on average. Looks like accumulating snow is a real possibility this weekend here.

I wouldn’t get too excited yet, unless you live in the Carolinas. Models are just not handling this well and won’t for another day or so.

Here is the current discussion from BMX. The Euro is not really showing any precip in Alabama, but the GFS is showing light precip.

Im not sure, but imagine If we had. A layer of snow when those temps came in. might see the first negative temperatures in my lifetime lol

FFC says they're pretty positive all precipitation would come as snow if an event were to occur but that the location of the low pressure will be key to all of it.

18z nam again with snow. I think it's likely based on the nam that a good chunk of the northern half of Alabama is looking at a dusting potentially. I

Most likely any precipitation that falls will be all snow - this sounding is off of the 18z NAM for the Birmingham metro.

Of course I would prefer Scenario 1...but I am still on the southern edge of precip in that graphic. I would be happy with a dusting at this point.

18z GFS is even more robust with snow potential for central Alabama. 0.0. I think it'll only be a dusting to 1/2 inches at most

It seems like some of our good snow events were last minute surprises...hoping that this one falls into that category. But on the flip side of things, there are so many people still without power and a big snow event would not be good for them...especially with even colder temps coming this weekend.
