Scary situation with Hurricane Melissa breaking records and due to hit Jamaica tonight, and now two powerful quakes near the Leewards. Per the AP, there was little damage reported, and PAGER at the USGS event page only goes into yellow a bit. It was on the Atlantic side.

Right. The Caribbean is not to be slept on in terms of earthquakes. A while back (in another thread), I said don’t be surprised when the earth starts to do things it has not done before when it comes to weather and natural disasters.

The most infamous Caribbean Earthquake, at least in modern times, is the one that struck Haiti in 2010.
