is there any way to disable new posts from showing up while reading?

it is very annoying and undesired behavior to be 5 pages behind reading through the posts and then new posts show up at the bottom of the page before i read posts from 4 pages behind, 3 pages behind, etc. and then i end up seeing the posts again later in the thread.

I've temporarily turned off. We can revisit how to allow members to toggle it on and off.

I think this feature would be fine if you’re on the last page of the thread or scrolled to the end of it, just not when you’re pages back. That’s probably easier said than done though.

It is a neat tool, but when things are happening as fast as they have been the last couple of days, we've discovered it can hurt more than help during peak times.

Yeah, I can imagine if you have hundreds of users with browsers open doing constant refreshes by whatever mechanism does that, it probably creates a resource drain.

Recently I have been getting spam warnings about posts that are too short. Is this because of the high activity level?

It is to cut out all those posts that could simply be completed with a thumbs up/smiley/etc.

Stuff like that is just clutter we don't need or want during a rapidly developing situation. Continual attempts to bypass will find one in the penalty box.

I'll admit I miss the refresh feature. I'm working to find a way to let users turn it on or off to suit their preference.

Alright, just a quick update: I've adjusted the settings to reduce the refresh rate to something more reasonable. It’s active now, so let me know if it works for you.

I’m still figuring out how to make this a user-selected option for the long term.

I would so much prefer being able to toggle the setting off. This wasn't the first event where it's been irritating to me. If I go off for a few hours and come back and try to read through what I missed, I end up with new stuff at the bottom of the page and it can be so disorienting. So thank you for looking into a way for us to toggle it!
