Historic tornado videos missing from youtube/the internet?

same channel just uploaded TWC coverage of 5/24/2011. TWC wove KFOR's coverage into theirs pretty regularly that day, so this certainly helps bridge some of the massive hole that currently exists in KFOR coverage from this day. Additionally, SGF published the PNS announcing the Joplin tornado's upgrade to an EF5 rating at about 6p CT on May 24; TWC first reports on this just after 1:24:00 in the video.

Another video from the May 3rd, 1999 Bridge Creek tornado outbreak that I always wondered if a full version exists with the original audio outside of these two silent clips. These videos were taken from Newcastle, Oklahoma.

I’ve always wondered about those too! They are super underrated probably because of their quality. there’s definetly a high quality copy somewhere.

I also wonder where the location those video clips took place at in Newcastle as well. Hopefully one day a high quality copy does surface on YT or if it even exists. Very an underrated video footage for sure.

I don't think anything is missing here tbh. Since the uploader is the original author, my guess is the footage was probably filmed with an early (obviously low quality) digital camera that didn't have sound recording capability to begin with. There is also the less likely possibility that the uploader used a capture device that didn't capture the audio for some reason, assuming it was there in the first place.

i’m unaware of any devices available in 1999 that recorded quality that low. i think there’s multiple key signs in the video like the vhs effects barely visible that give a clue that this was simply upload during a time where video quality on youtube was low at best. especially if the device was bad or upload time was short. i’m almost sure the original footage is much highe rwuakity

Maybe a late 90s Sony Mavica? Those did record audio, however.

Considering the footage was uploaded in 2016, I highly doubt bandwith would have been a serious problem as far as uploading the footage goes.

I could be wrong. The only way to be sure would be to get in touch with the uploader and see if he still has the raw footage on its original medium, whether it was VHS, digital or whatever.

I’m not sure. it was definetly camera quality. i doubt the muted aspect was authentic. I would try to contact OP if they weren’t a one-time account that dipped after posting

Is it be possible the news stations in Oklahoma could have the original tape (whether or not it was filmed from a VHS or if DVD camcorders existed in 1999) buried somewhere in the archives with the other tornado footage from that particular day? Idk if that particular footage was used in the news or any tornado related documentaries at some point.

I'm really surprised no footage or photos of the Xenia tornado from 2000 exists at all outside of pictures of the damage path.

I also wonder if any footage/photos of the tornado that struck the Atlanta Motor Speedway on June 6th, 2005 exists at all? That tornado in particular was formed from the remains of Tropical Storm Cindy.

The 2000 Xenia F4 was completely rain-wrapped and hit close to sunset. I lived in the area at the time. You couldn’t see anything.

So, got in touch with a guy who shot some pretty incredible footage of the 2005 Birmingham tornado. Snippets of his footage have been seen in news reports, but the full video has never been released to the public. He says he still has the original tape, so keeping my fingers crossed that he'll send me at least part of it... of course, I won't upload it if I don't get permission to do so. But we shall see...

Is it the one where the group were caught outside?
