Severe Weather 4/17/26

I think their statewide daily record is still April 19, 1996 (realized earlier this week that I forgot the 30th anniversary on Sunday). I'm surprised other days like 3/31/23 (or even 4/20/04, the infamous "surprise" outbreak featuring the deadly North Utica F3) didn't have more than 4/17 this year.

Someone noted recently either on here or another weather forum I frequent that because Illinois is such a long state north-south, it has a wide variety of weather. The southern part has more in common climate-wise with Kentucky than it does with Wisconsin. Ironically, a lot of the more notable early-season outbreaks such as the ones I mentioned plus Palm Sunday '65, Oak Lawn '67 and the like have affected more the northern part of the state, while the worse outbreaks in the southern part of the state (5/16 last year, 6/2/1990) have been in the mid-late spring, when you'd think it would be the other way around.
