Evan, I believe you owe me a steak dinner at Fleming's. However, in the spirit of magnanimity I would like to donate the money that would have been spent to a forum member who could benefit from such a donation. I have someone in mind. PM me if you need help identifying the individual.

Oh boy. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Trump was going to win it all. But hey, I like most of the people he's surrounding himself with and I'm optimistic. Lots of knee jerking, hyperbole from the other side. No better than those who said 2 Obama terms were going to end America as we know it. I wish Trump all the best....if he fails, the country fails.

Of course you didn't see it. Not being disrespectful but this was probably your first presidential election. As I stated over and over in the old forum, I held my nose and voted for the Republican candidates for president and Congress for many cycles only to see them dishonor their promises, explode the debt and in many ways weaken the country. I'll stop here but I think you and other doubters will be very pleasantly surprised and pleased over the next few years! Now go study young man!

I wish I could remember what we even agreed to (but I don't), but I trust what you say and I'm more than happy to keep my word! PMing you now. I remember Fleming's and it being in relation to the election, but I don't recall the full details. Either way, sounds like a great way to help someone out and as I said I certainly want to keep my word!

Trump says a lot that I agree with, well, that most would agree with. Heavy tax burdens on companies moving overseas. I just never trusted him to avoid the temptation of greed and power and I think bettering himself has always been more important than bettering other people and society in general. I hope I'm wrong, but he already failed at draining the swamp with his appointees for starters.
Also his plan to repeal & replace obamacare so quickly has the hospital case workers in a panic. "Surely they'll actually take the time to analyze everything they're doing and changing" ... We all hope he doesn't rush this like he's talking about doing. You just can't overhaul something so intricate in under a year - certainly the government can't (shouldn't) - and expect it to be flawless.

More later... Gotta get back to work

I'm in the camp that thinks we need to find a way for all of our citizens to have decent health care services. I think Obama tried with the ACA, but it needs major revising. I will forever be thankful that Obamacare existed last year when my teenage daughter was pregnant and had zero coverage for prenatal services, labor, and delivery on my own health insurance plan. If it hadn't been for Obamacare, she would've had no coverage. We are fortunate enough that we could've paid for her normal labor and delivery out of pocket (we did pay for almost all of her prenatal services out of pocket due to delays in wading through the insurance bureaucracy), but if she'd had some sort of catastrophic event it would've been a financial disaster. I very much empathize with those who have no affordable way to cover their health expenses.

I don't know what the solutions are, but obviously we shouldn't have a system where subsidies make health care fairly affordable for those in the lower middle class but shift an excessive burden to those in the upper middle class and higher with absurd premiums and deductibles. My impression is everyone wants their cake and to eat it too. Keep the coverage for pre-existing conditions. Keep my kids on my policy until age 26. Get rid of the mandate to buy coverage. My premium should cost less than what I pay for cell phone and TV and interwebz each month. Ain't gonna happen! MANY people also seem concerned only for their own affordable insurance coverage. Who cares about anyone else and whether they can get it? Sad.

Healthcare is not an issue I have fully took the time to read in, but I can say it has been a disaster with the soaring prices it created--and that is a good indication of what would happen if college was made free like it seems many people want to see. I do think this article is a good read as to what should be done about Obozocare, and hopefully is what goes into effect when Trump is president.

I never spoke in the political thread on old Talkweather because some of those arguments got heated, but in terms of this election, Trump would not have been my first choice for president by any means; but with who became his opponent, he was the best option to vote for.

Hearing a lot of people are upset that birth control won't be totally free in the future health care replacement. Poor souls will have to pay a copay like the rest of us do with any other prescription.

It's always been ridiculous how expensive birth control can be, there was a time when it wasn't covered under insurance BUT Viagra was.....
