If he is still in possession of this gun, arrest him and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.

Bad look from Trump last week... Cancels visit to honor American troops killed in action in France because of a light rain shower and also tweets out disparaging remarks against firefighters and first responders working to save lives and property in California. His view of MAGA in action.

Trump’s comments on the California fires are distasteful and inappropriate, but he isn’t wrong when he said these mega fires, also known as crown fires, are due to poor forest management.

Natural systems like California are supposed to have small, frequent, and widespread fires at the end of their dry season. Population sprawl and subsequent fire prevention methods have resulted in fuel that prompt these mega wildfires.

Do you think the forests are being managed properly out West ?

Have they ever heard of a controlled burn ? After the fires we will soon be talking about mudslides in the exact same area. It is stupid.

These are urban interface fires, not forest fires.

Glad he decided to go as he should... probably a reaction to the negative reaction from veteran's groups who were critical of him cancelling at first. Like he was pressured by Vets to lower the flag to half staff after McCain's death.

That still doesn’t change the fact that chaparral forests have been intersected by urban development and subsequent fire prevention methods have led to an “overstocking” of fuel. These types of vegetation are some of the most fire prone naturally.

I agree with the urbanization being an issue. When it comes to the buildup of natural fuels, the authorities in California try to let all naturally occurring wildfires burn themselves out. Back in the 70s (or earlier) they realized that overzealous firefighting was causing bigger and bigger fires. There actually was a lot of public outrage 80s against the forest & wildlife services because they weren't putting out natural wildfires and large fires were plaguing the region. They didn't understand the correlation but the state & federal officials did.

This battle of selective harvesting and controlled burning is still an issue even until today. I know there was big push back by environmentalists during George "Dubya" Bush's admin when he introduced the "healthy forests" plan. Even though forestry officials have blamed these megafires out west on strict "no logging, no burning" policies, which are antiquated, that didn't matter as environmentalists sued the Bush admin.

California has had a double whammy. They were in a decadal wet period during the 1960s through the 1980s and 1990s which permitted more growth than usual. Now we're seeing what decadal drought does along with mismanaged forests due to tree hugging policies.

In the Southeast, we're seeing the opposite. A lot of our native forests are becoming more and more mesic, meaning we're losing the native oak/pine populations in favor of maples. This is in large part due to no burn/selective harvest policies and feedback of fire-sensitive plants. This is having profound effects on the ecosystem and there is push to return it to the "pre-European" settlement composition.

Also, Maryland police murdered a man in cold blood while they executed a "gun confiscation" order submitted by his family. His family supposedly didn't like the idea of him owning guns. So, police stormed his home in the middle of the night. Reportedly, he had no criminal history preventing gun ownership. Explain to me, was he permitted due process prior to police storming his home? Was he evaluated prior to police storming his home? The answer right now...is no.

And so it begins.

I see too many people say "oh we aren't coming for your guns." Well, in this case, yes they are.

When will they come after additional rights? And don't tell me they won't. We have a significant number of states that already deny those deemed "mentally incompetent" the right to vote. When, will states begin to enforce that against people who may not fall into line...and by line, I mean they do not share the views as the majority See, this is a slippery slope. But it's okay! They aren't coming after anything!
